RACIAL PROBLEM vs. SOCIAL CLASS DIFFERENCE

During my schools years, I was considered naïve and unrealistic by whites and blacks because I sustained that the racial problem in the world had disappeared or was disappearing and it was being replaced by social class differences. My experience living in Latin America, Europe, and United States and touring Africa confirmed that I was right. In fact, there are not any racial problems in the social circles of Latin America, between professional coworkers in Europe, among students in the United States, or Africa’s partying scenes. Nonetheless, there are serious difficulties to communicate among them, if they come from different social classes.

United States was built on racial violence in which the American Indians were almost exterminated and the blacks only survived because they were indispensable for constructing this country. Now our different racial communities are living in harmony and we are equal before the law. There is only one thing that we have yet to overcome that is the way the law is being imposed, given that the judges are more severe with spanish and blacks while rather lenient with whites. For instance, during this month two injustices occurred: some policemen were declared innocent after having killed a young black male whom had not committed any crime and was unarmed and defenseless; he received more that fifty gunshots. Another white policeman was declared innocent, after having killed two spanish persons while driving intoxicated. If these situations had been reversed, these individuals had probably been condemned to death.

Recapping, our American society, there are many Jews, Spanish, Asiatic and Arabic people whom through their hard work have gone from the lower class to the middle and some even have achieved to make it into the high class, materializing in this way the American dream. Struggling to survive, the lower class has unchained a silent antagonism among the different cultures giving the false impression of being a racial problem, especially between the spanish and black cultures. This antagonism between these two cultures and the fact that a racial problem does not exist in our country is clearly reflected in Obama Barack. The American population is supporting him not because he is black, but because he is part of a social class worthy of being president. While the spanish people are not supporting him mostly because of their believe that he represents the black community.

A more eloquent evidence that confirms the fact, object of this analysis, can be found in the natural way people of different cultures meet, socialize, fall in love and even get marry in the world. These couple has as common denominator, the fact that they come from the same social classes. Racial prejudice is a horrible monster that fortunately makes part of the past and in the exceptional case that it occurs is when is committed by a person who suffers serious personality disorder. The skin’s color is not significant anymore. It is sometimes mentioned to indicate physical attraction but not rejection. What it is now important is the person’s social, economic, intellectual and moral level.

HILLARY CLINTON...QUE DECEPCION

Yo realmente no se si es por el hecho de ser negro o por venir de una familia humilde o simplemente por sensibilidad humana, yo siempre he sido solidario y he apoyado a las personas, organizaciones y grupos sociales que historicamente han sido discriminados debido a su debilidad o carencia de mecanismo para defenderse por si mismo: las mujeres y los pobres, entre otros. El patriarcado y la explotacion laboral a puesto a estos grupos en condiciones de indefension, pero afortunadamente con el pasar del tiempo ellos han venido reinvidicando sus derechos, especialmente las mujeres. Cuando el mundo politico empezó a mencionar nombres de mujeres presidentes, yo empezé a imaginarme a una mujer en la Casa Blanca y me alegré cuando Hillary Clinton, por su experiencia, caracter, seriedad e inteligencia, empezó a sonar como una posible pre-candidata del partido democrata. Indudablemente, yo estaba listo para apoyar y votar por ella porque tener a una mujer como Presidente de los Estados Unidos seria algo grandioso y un hito en la historia de nuestro pais.

Sin embargo, como por arte de magia apareció Barack Obama quien hizo que Clinton perdiera la categoria de lider indiscutible del partido democrata. Aunque Clinton tiene aguda inteligencia, cautivante personalidad, profundo conocimiento politico y la capacidad para recuperar nuestro pais de los errores cometidos por la administracion de Bush; la mayoria de los democratas han optado por apoyar a Obama, tomando en consideracion el hecho de que él posee las mismas caracteristicas y puede inclusive hacer un trabajo mejor que ella. La mayoria de los democratas lo piensan asi y este hecho tambien se refleja en el voto popular. Clinton se niega a aceptar esta realidad y ha rechazado la recomendacion del partido democrata de retirarse de la contienda electoral.

La terquedad de Clinton en aceptar su derrota esta causando serios problemas al partido democrata en general y en particular a ella misma. Si miramos la expresion de su cara, podemos observar que detras de su sonrisa forzada se esconde algo maquiavelico o pertubador que ella no puede enconder. Es realmete decepcionate y patetico ver como una destacada e inteligente mujer se suicida politicamente y trata de sepultar la posible victoria de los democratas. Politicos democratas y amigos han hablado con Clinton a cerca de todas las circunstancias y consequencias alrededor de esta situacion, pero ella ha asumido como suyas las palabras de Sanson: “muera Sanson y mueran todos los filisteos”.

Con su obsesiva decision de no retirarse de la contienda politica, Clinton no solo esta inflingiendose daño a si misma y a su partido politico, sino tambien a la imagen de la mujer. La experiencia ha demostrado que las mujeres son mas sensitivas, practicas y menos ambiciosas que los hombres. Sin embargo, la actitud de Clinton señala que, en su afan de conseguir poder, las mujeres pueden incluso ser mas irrazonable e insensitivas que los hombres. De hecho, Clinton ha demostrado ser capaz de hacer cualquier cosa con tal de ganarle las elecciones a Obama. Su obsesiva ambicion por el poder es la razon por la cual esta inteligente mujer se ha negado a ver lo que todo el mundo esta viendo.

HILLARY CLINTON’S DISAPPOINTMENT

I do not really know if it is due to the fact that I am black, come from a humble origin or simply due to human sensibility, that I am sympathetic towards and support the people, organizations and social groups that have historically been discriminated because of their weakness and lack of mechanisms to defend themselves: women and the poor, among others. Patriarchy and labor exploitation had endemically placed these groups in defenseless conditions, but fortunately as time has gone by they have been reclaiming their rights. When the political world began mentioning female presidents, I began to vision a woman in the White House and I was pleased when Hillary Clinton began to be recognized as a viable pre-candidate of the Democratic Party because of her intelligence, character, seriousness and experience. Undoubtedly, I was ready to support and vote for her because her triumph to be the first female President of the United States would be something terrific and it would mark a milestone in our country.

Nonetheless, out of nowhere, Barack Obama appeared and made Clinton loose her status of the predictable leader for the Democratic Party. Despite, Clinton’s sharp intelligence, ravishing personality, deep political knowledge, and her definite capacity to recuperate our country from the errors made by Bush’s administration; the democratic majority has opted to support Obama, taking into consideration the fact that Obama possesses the same qualities and can even do a better job. Most of the Democrats think this way and this is also reflected in the popular vote. Nevertheless, Clinton has been refusing to accept this reality and has been rejecting the Democratic Party’s recommendation of retreating from the electoral contest.

Clinton’s stubbornness in accepting her defeat is causing serious problems in general to the Democratic Party and in particular to herself. If you look at Clinton’s face expression, you can observe that behind that strained smile, there is something disturbing that she is unable to hide. It is really disappointing to see an intelligent and outstanding woman commit political suicide and kill the possible victory of her political party over the Republican Party. Democrat politicians and friends have talked to her about all the circumstances and consequences surrounding this situation, but she seems to assume Samson’s biblical words: die Samson with all the filisteos, meaning if she goes down so does the entire party.

With her persistent decision not to drop out of the running, Clinton has not only been causing problems to herself and to the Democratic Party, but also to the women’s image. The experience has demonstrated that women are more sensitive, practical and less ambitious of power than men. Nonetheless, Clinton’s attitude points out when women are determined to obtain power, they can become even more impractical and insensitive than men. In fact, Clinton has shown to be capable to do whatever necessary for the sake of winning these elections. This excessive ambition for power has become the cause of why this intelligent woman has refused to see what everyone else is seeing.

LA CRISIS DE LA FINCA RAIZ EN LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS

Ante todo, pido excusas por que el tema economico no es mi fuerte, pero me atrevo a escribir sobre este topico por dos razones. Primera, porque compadezco a las personas que han perdido o que estan perdiendo sus casas debido a la crisis por la que atraviesa la finca raiz y segunda, para explicar la causa que la produjo de una forma simple y directa visto que los economistas modernos usan un lenguage raro y confuso que solo ellos entienden.

El capitalismo ha sido el sistema de produccion que mas ha ayudado a la humanidad a erradicar la pobreza y el mundo financiero ha sido la clave del exito del capitalismo. El fracaso del comunismo es la prueba fehaciente e incontrovertible de este hecho. Sin embargo, el mundo financiero se ha caracterizado por la indiferencia ante el sentimiento y el bienestar social de la gente. Su filosofia es multiplicar dinero sin importar la suerte de las personas. Esto es lo que ha venido ocurriendo y lo que ha traido como consequencia la crisis de la finca raiz en los Estados Unidos ya que los inversionistas en esta area exageraron con el alto interes en el programa hipotecario llamado “subprime”.

Se dice que el programa hipotecario “subprime” fue diseñado para ofrecer prestamos hipotecarios a quienes no tienen una buena historia crediticia. Pero, la realidad demuestra que en este grupo de personas fueron automaticamente incluidos los hispanos y negros aunque tuviesen un excelente historial crediticio. En otras palabras, el sector financiero se inventó un absurdo e ilogico jueguito, en el cual, entre mas pobre fuese la persona mas alto interes tenia que pagar.

Usando un lenguage simple y entendible, podemos decir que estos prestamos hipotecarios se caracterizan por el hecho de no ser a termino fijo y por tener interes variable, por ejemplo y hablando hipoteticamente un deudor de un prestamo hipotecario que empieza pagando una couta mensual de $ 2.000 dolares, uno o dos años mas tarde termina pagando $ 3.000 dolares e incluso mas. Inicialmente, los deudores hacen un gran esfuerzo para pagar sus cuotas, pero con el paso del tiempo el dinero no les alcanza para cumplir sus obligaciones con el banco. Esto es lo que ha venido sucediendo con los deudores hipotecario en este pais.

Cuando explotó la crisis de la finca raiz, el mundo financiero, el gobierno, los economistas y la prensa señalaron a los deudores como los responsables de la crisis, en lugar de acusar a los inversionistas de usureros y quizas, de delinquentes por su conducta criminal. Aun mas, el argumento que estas personas inventaron para justificar su teoria es ridicula y absurda ya que dijeron que los deudores no debieron haber intentado comprar sus propiedades si no estaban en capacidad de cumplir con el pago de las cuotas correspondientes. No hay duda alguna, los inversionistas estan arrepentidos y tienen remordimiento por la crisis financiaria que han causado tanto a nivel nacional como a nivel internacional, pero, este arrepentimiento o remordimiento no es a consequencia de la desgracia o sufrimiento que estan viviendo los deudores hipotecario, si no, a la gran cantidad de dinero que estan perdiendo actualmente en este negocio.

FINANCIAL CRISIS OF REAL ESTATE IN THE UNITED STATES

First off, I ask to be excused for the economic field is not my forte. However, I have the courage to write about this subject due to two reasons. First, because I sympathize with the group of people who have lost or are losing their homes because of the real estate crisis and second, to explain the cause of this crisis in a simple and direct way given that the modern economic analysts use rather rare and confusing language that is only understood by them.

Capitalism has been the mode of production that has most helped humanity eradicate poverty and the financial world has been the key to the success of capitalism. The failure of communism is the irrefutable and incontrovertible proof of it. Nevertheless, the financial world has been characterized for its indifference toward the people’s feelings and their social well-being as its philosophy is to multiply money without caring for people’s destiny. This is what has been occurring and has brought as a consequence the real estates crisis in Unites States, in view of the fact that investors in this area exaggerate with the high interest rates in mortgage programs called “subprime”.

It was said that the “subprime” program was designed to give mortgage loans to people who do not have a good credit history. However, the reality shows that in this group were automatically included spanish and blacks even if they had an excellent credit history. In other words, the poorer the person is the higher the interest rate he/she has to pay. Using simple and understandable language, we can say that these mortgage loans are characterized for not being a term fixed with variable interest. For instance and hypothetically speaking, a debtor of a mortgage loan began paying $ 2000 dollars a month and one or two years later it increased to $ 3000 dollars, and there have been cases where the increase has even been greater. Initially, the debtor makes a big effort to pay the monthly payment, but ultimately there comes a point when he/she are not able to endure to pay anymore. This is what has happened and is currently happening with the debtors of mortgage loans in this country.

When the real estate crisis in United States exploded, the financial world, the government, the economic analysts and the mass media accused the debtors of being responsible instead of questioning the investors about their usury and perhaps their illegal behavior. Yet, their response is absurd and ridiculous as they argue that the debtors should have not tried to buy their properties in the first place if they were not in capacity of fulfilling with their payment. There is no doubt that investors are very remorseful of this financial crisis they caused at a national and international level; however this remorse is not because of the debtors’ misfortune, but because of their monetary loss.

INGRID BETANCOURT Y EL ACUERDO HUMANITARIO

Es sabido que Colombia es uno de los paises mas golpeado por la violencia en el mundo. Esta violencia tiene diferentes formas y colores tales como la violacion de los derechos humanos por parte del ejercito, la delincuencia comun y la cruel e inhumana violencia por parte de la guerrilla, los paramilitares y los narcotraficantes. Tambien existe una fuerte corrupcion politica. Para complicar mas el panorama hay un escandalozo nivel de impunidad. Es tambien sabido que la guerrilla colombiana es la mas vieja del mundo y ha surgido de diferentes ideologias politicas: el Mahoismo, el Marxismo y el Troskismo entre otras. Inicialmente estos grupos eran revolucionarios y luchaban en favor de la clase oprimida, pero con el paso del tiempo perdieron sus ideas revolucionarias y se convirtieron, en la practica, en peligrosos delinquentes. En sus formas de “lucha revolucionarias” han incluidos crimenes horrendos como: masacres a la poblacion civil, secuestros, narcotrafico y el uso de las llamadas “minas quiebra patas”.

Se dice tambien que las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC) tienen secuestradas a mas de 2.000 personas incluyendo politicos, policias, militares y tres soldados Americanos. Ingrid Betancourt ciudadana Colombo-Francesa hace parte de este desafortunado grupo y fué secuestrada en plena campaña politica cuando era candidata a la presidencia de Colombia. La farc y el gobierno Colombiano han tratado de negociar un acuerdo humanitario para intercambiar personas secuestradas por guerrilleros encarcelados. Sin embargo, la exigencia hecha por la FARC para empezar el dialogo ha sido considerada una exageracion: el despeje de un basto y estrategico territorio. El gobierno Frances ha hecho un grande esfuezo para lograr la liberacion de Ingrid, pero, el gobierno Colombiano no ha sido serio en enfrentar la suerte de los secuestrados y se ha dedicado a prendere in giro como diria Moravia o mamar gallo como diria Gabo a esa inhumana y ungustiosa situacion.

El President de Venezuela Hugo Chavez es un actor importante para ayudar a resolver este complicado desafio politico, de hecho, ayudo para obtener la liberacion de algunos secuestrados y habia dicho que estaba trabajando para la liberacion de otros, entre ellos, Ingrid Betancourt, pero que esa posibilidad desapareció con la muerte del segundo comandante de esa organizacion, Raul Reyes quien fué bombardeado por el ejercito Colombiano. Hugo Chavez ha trabajado en este asunto no solo por sensibilidad social, si no tambien por el engrandecimiento de su movimiento politico llamado “Bolivariano”. Desde que el caso de Ingrid Betancourt se volvió una prioridad para el gobierno Frances, el acuerdo humanitario se ha internacionalizado. Paises Europeos y Latinoamericanos han mostrado especial interes y disponibilidad para ayudar a Colombia a solucionar este conflicto. Ingrid es la llave de todo esto, sin ella, la suerte de los secuestrado no tendria ningun interes, aun es mas, no se sabria o se hablaria de ellos a nivel internacional, de hecho a ella la han convertido en una ficha de ajedrez, en el cual, la FARC y los gobiernos de Colombia, Venezuela y Francia estan jugando de acuerdo a sus intereses politicos.

Indudablemente, el gobierno Colombiano no ha mostrado sincera preocupacion por la angustiosa situacion que estan viviendo los secuestrados. Alvaro Uribe expresa en publico su sufrimiento por la suerte de ellos y propone formulas para resolver el problema, pero su actitud señala claramente que hay una abierta dicotomia entre lo que dice y lo que hace, en otras palabras, hay mucha hipocrecia en este asunto.La poblacion Colombian hizo un manifestacion contra la FARC pidiendo la liberacion de las personas secuestradas pero terminó siendo manipulada por Alvaro Uribe. En mi opinion, esa manifestacion fue encausada por un camino equivocado ya que es inutil e ingenuo pedirle a un grupo de delinquentes la liberacion de secuestrados sin que ellos reciban algo en cambio, aun mas, estos delinquentes no tienen ninguna obligacion moral, politica o social con el pueblo Colombiano. Por tanto, esta manifestacion debio de haberse dirigido contra Alvaro Uribe quien tiene el poder para resolver la situacion y el deber y obligacion Constitucional de responderle al pueblo Colombiano. La poblacion Colombiana tambien deberia exigirle a Alvaro Uribe que asuma la liberacion de los secuestrado con seriedad y responsabilidad, asi mismo, que no siga dilatando o tomandole el pelo a la desgarradora, desesperante e inhumana situacion de los secuestrados.

INGRID BETANCOURT AND THE HUMANITARIAN AGREEMENT IN COLOMBIA

It is known that Colombia is one of the countries hit the hardest by the violence in the world. This violence has different forms and shapes such as the violation against the human rights on the part of the army, common delinquency and the cruel an inhuman violence on the part of the guerrillas, paramilitaries and drug traffickers. In addition, there is a strong political corruption. To make the picture even more complex, there is a scandalous level of impunity. It is also known that Colombia’s guerrilla is the oldest in the world and has emerged from different political ideology such as Maoist, Marxist, and Trotsky among others. Initially, these groups were revolutionaries and struggled in favor of the oppressed class. However, as time has gone, they have lost their revolutionary ideas to practically become delinquents. In their form of struggle are included horrendous crimes such as: massacres within the civil population, kidnappings, drug trafficking and the use of the so-called “mine leg-breaking”.

It was said that Force Armed Revolutionary of Colombia (FARC) have kidnapped more of 2.000 persons including politicians, policemen, members of the military, civilians, and three American soldiers. Ingrid Betancourt, a Colombian and French citizen, has made part of this unfortunate group. She was kidnapped while she was running for Colombia’s presidency. The FARC and Colombia’s government have tried to negotiate a humanitarian agreement in which they would exchange kidnapped individuals for imprisoned guerrillas. However, the requirement made by the FARC to begin to negotiate has been considered an exaggeration: clearing up a vast and strategic territory. The French government has been doing a strong effort for Ingrid’s liberation but the Colombian government has not been serious in facing the kidnapped individual’s fate and has dedicated to dance around the bush of this distressed situation.

Hugo Chavez’s the Venezuelan President is an important actor for solving this issue. In fact, he contributed for the liberation of some kidnapped individuals and had said that he was working on the liberation of others, including Ingrid Betancourt, but the possibility of it disappeared with the death of the second in command of this organization, Raul Reyes who was bombarded by the Colombia army. Hugo Chavez had worked in this matter not only for social sensibility but also for the enlargement of his political movement so-called “Bolivariano”. Since the Ingrid Betancourt’s case has become a priority to the French’s government, the humanitarian agreement in Colombia has gotten much international attention. European as Latin American countries have been showing their availability to help Colombia solve this social and political problem. Ingrid Betancourt is the key in all this. In fact, she has become a pawn of a chess game where the FARC and the Colombian, Venezuelan and French governments are playing according to their political interest.

The Colombian government has not shown genuine concern before the kidnapped individuals’ anguished situation. Alvaro Uribe expresses in public his suffering for these individuals’ fate and proposes formulas for solving the problem, but his attitude clearly shows that there is a dichotomy about what he says and what he actually thinks. In other words, there is a lot of hypocrisy in this matter. Colombian citizens made a manifestation in March against the FARC, asking for the liberation of the kidnapped individuals, but this ended up been manipulated by the President himself. In my opinion, this manifestation was addressed in the wrong way, given that it is useless and naïve to ask a delinquent group for the liberation of individuals without them receiving something in return. Even more, these delinquents do not have any moral, social or political obligation with the Colombian population. This manifestation should have been addressed against Alvaro Uribe whom has the power to resolve this situation and has the moral obligation to respond to the Colombian population’s petition. The Colombian population also should demand him to assume the kidnapped individual’s liberation with seriousness and responsibility, and to stop dancing around the bush.

BARACK OBAMA

Un hombre llamado uracan

Barack Obama refleja el concepto de diversidad expresada en nuestra constitucion americana. El es un mulato hijo de un negro de Kenia y una blanca Americana que tiene hermanos africanos y asiaticos. Pasó su niñez y adolecencia en Honolulu-Hawaii y Jakarta- Indonesia. Se graduó en la Universidad de Columbia y en la Escuela de Derecho de Harvard. El fué un excelente estudiante y ha trabajado como organizador de comunidades, conferencista universitario, abogado de derechos civiles y senador en Illinois y en Washington DC.

Despues de una exitosa vida como profesor universitario y una prominente carrera politica en Chicago, Barack Obama terminó siendo un pre-candidato democrata para la Presidencia de los Estados Unidos. Ninguna campaña politica ha despertado tanto interes, entusiasmo y expectativa a nivel nacional e internacional. La causa es obvia, hay dos personas muy qualificadas en el partido democratico: Obama, el primer hombre negro con probabilidad para ganar la presidencia americana y Hillary, la primera mujer que se ha lanzado a ocupar la mencionada posicion. Hillary representa la vieja clase politica americana mientras que Obama representa la nueva, por tanto, tiene sentido cuando se dice que si una persona quiere que Estados Unidos continue marchando en la misma direccion en que ha marchado durunte muchos años, debe votar por Hillary, y al contrario, si esa persona esta buscando algo nuevo, debe votar por Obama. Yo se que hay muchas personas que no comparten este criterio pero asi lo demuestran los hechos. En muchas encuestas se refleja que la clase educada quiere cambio y apoya a Obama y la menos educada quiere que las cosas permanezcan igual y apoya a Hillary.

Por esta razon, resulta logico que la canpaña politica de Obama este basada en “el cambio” mientras que la campaña politica de Hillary este enfocada en “la experiencia”. El mensaje de cambio ofrecido por Obama significa el rompimiento con la rutina politica que ha causado y continua causando el desmejoramiento de las condiciones de vida del pueblo americano. Sin embargo, no es claro a que se refiere Hillary cuando habla sobre la experiencia ya que este tema puede ser analizado desde el punto de vista cuantitativo y qualitativo. El primero se refiere a la cantidad de años que una persona trabaja en determinada area y el segundo a la madurez psicologica y a la solvencia intelectual que la persona tiene para tomar sabias y apropidas decisiones. Si tomanos en consideracion la cantidad de años que los dos precandidatos han trabajado en politica, sin lugar a duda Hillary tiene mas experiencia, pero si tenemos en cuenta la madurez psicologica y la solvencia intelectual, Obama ha demostrado gran madurez psyco-intelectual votando contra la guerra en Irak y afrontando su mayor desafio politico en su historico discurso sobre raza y religion, mientras que la de Hillary esta ensombrecida por mentiras que han sido comprobadas como cuando ella le dijo a Sir Edmund Hillary, primer explorador que subió al Everest, que su madre le habia puesto su nombre en honor a él, igualmente, la fantastica historia que creó acerca de su llegada a Bosnia bajo fuego cruzado cuando ella era la Primera Dama.

El uracan de Obama ha oscurecido la luz de Hillary que resplandecia al inicio de la campaña. Ahora, ella esta luchando para brillar nuevamente atacando a Obama usando metodos inapropiados. Su poco convencional comportamiento no lo ha debilitado, antes por el contrario, lo ha fortalecido. Sin embargo, hay indicio que uno de esos metodos le esta funcionado y es el hecho de que ella esta tratando de convertir la intencion del voto en un problema de tipo racial. Desafortunadamente, el ex-pastor de Obama, Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., con su istrionismo, esta contribuyendo eficientemente en este asunto. En esta acalorada carrera politica de los democratas hay algo paradojico y contradictorio y es lo relacionado con la comunidad hispana. Obama fue impulsado y sigue siendo apoyado por el pueblo americano en razon a sus cualidades morales, humanas, intelectuales y profesionales. Este hecho demuestra que la poblacion americana quiere cambio en la casa Blanca. Sin embargo, la comunidad hispana, ironicamente, el grupo que mas necesita el cambio, esta apoyando a Hillary.
