BARACK OBAMA

A man called hurricane

Barack Obama embodies the concept of diversity expressed in the American Constitution. He is a mulatto son of a black Kenyan father and a white American mother with African and Asiatic siblings. His early life was spent in Honolulu, Hawaii and Jakarta, Indonesia. He is a graduate from Columbia University and Harvard Law School. He excelled as a student throughout his college career. He has worked as a Community Organizer, University Lecturer, Civil Rights Lawyer, Illinois Senate and US Senate.

After a successful life as a university Professor and a prominent political career in Chicago, he wound up as the democratic presidential pre-candidate of the United States. No other campaign has aroused such interest, enthusiasm and expectation at a national and international level. The cause is obvious, given that there are two qualified persons in the democratic line: Obama, the first black man with an actual chance of wining the American presidency, and Hillary Clinton, the first woman to run for the mentioned position. Clinton represents the old American political class, while Obama represents the new class. Therefore, it makes sense when it is said that if a person wants the United States to continue going in the same direction it has for years, he/she should vote for Clinton; but if a person is looking for something new, he/she should vote for Obama. I know that there are people who do not share this opinion but the facts confirm my point. As reflected in many surveys, the educated class wants a change and is supporting Obama and the less educated class wants things to remain the same and is supporting Clinton.

In this order of ideas, it is logical the fact that Obama’s campaign is based on “the change” while Clinton’s campaign focuses on “the experience”. The message of change offered by Obama means breaking from the political routine that has caused the decline of the American’s life condition. However, is not clear to what Clinton refers when she talks about experience, in view of the fact that, this topic can be analyzed from both a quantity and quality point of view. The first refers to the amount of years that a person works in a determined area and the second refers to the psychological maturity and the intellectual solvency to take an appropriate and wise decision. If we take into consideration the amount of years that the pre-candidates have worked in politic, Clinton evidently has more experience but if we take into consideration the psychological maturity and intellectual solvency, Obama has demonstrated greater psyco-intellectual maturity, voting against the war in Iraq and confronting his most difficult political challenge in his historic speech about race and religion; while Hillary’s maturity has been overshadowed by lies, which have in fact been proven to be false, such as when she told Sir Edmund Hillary, first explorer to climb Mt. Everest, that she had been named after him; or her fabricated story about her arrival to Bosnia under cross-fire when she was the First Lady.

Obama’s hurricane has darkened Clinton’s light that was very resplendent at the time the campaign began. Now, she is striving to shine again by attacking him using improper methods. Her unconventional behavior has not harmed him; on the contrary it has strengthened him. Nonetheless, there is indication that one of these methods is working and is the fact that she is trying to convert the vote intention into a racial issue. Unfortunately, the Obama's ex-Pastor, Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., with his histrionics, is efficiently contributing to this matter. In this heated democratic presidential race between Obama and Clinton, there is a paradoxical and contradictory point involving the Spanish community. Obama was pushed and has been supported by American people due to his moral, human, intellectual and professional qualities. This fact shows that the American population wants change in the White House. Nevertheless, the Spanish community, ironically the group in most need of change, is supporting Clinton’s campaign.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION

One of the social problems that has been increasing in the world is the illegal migration of the lower class of developing countries to the industrialized world. The natural cause of this social phenomenon is linked to poverty, one of the worst evils a person can suffer in global south countries. Consequently, poverty has created in the minds of these people, a dream of migrating to developed countries, despite of the hardships and the little possibility of successfully arriving across the border alive as it is currently happening to the Africans when entering Europe via Spain, or to Latin Americans when entering the United States via Mexico. To prevent this, the industrialized world has shut its frontiers, hardened its migratory policies and strengthened the vigilance of the borders. However, these persons find a way to arrive to their promised land. In fact, some of them die attempting to do so. The more difficult the measures set by the governments to prevent these people from crossing the border, the more is the people’s wit to cross the frontier.

The increase of the illegal migration has brought as a consequence the birth of certain political groups which have been acquiring increased power, by only promising to expel illegal immigrants. This issue has aroused a lot of passion and confrontation in political debates. In this modern world, people’s industrialized world has been sensitive and charitable with persons who are suffering from extreme poverty. For that reason, it is incompressible and contradictory the social rejection in which these persons are subjected. So, it is no venture to think that behind it all there is a racial problem.

The illegal immigration in the United States is very complex because there are 14 million illegal immigrants most of whom have children who are American citizens. It is true that deportation has increased but it is also true that it has generated serious family, economic and psychological distress on these children, ultimately creating irreversible traumatic disturbances. Excluding the Spanish community, the American population has kept a stoical silence surrounding this depressing and pathetic situation. This silence does not really commiserate with the American people’s religious convictions. The illegal immigration topic has been analyzed from an economic point of view. Nevertheless, the discussion has been focused on the negative effects and no-one has emphasized the enormous contribution that illegal immigrants bring to the growing economy of this country. In light of the above mentioned, we are in necessity of the integral migration reform as soon as possible in which remains reflected human and compassionate sentiments of the legislators.

In summary and returning the illegal immigration in the world, it is known that while there exists extreme poverty, it will be difficult to find a magical formula to solve the illegal immigration problem. This is because a person who is suffering from such calamity will do whatever necessary to avoid enduring a miserable life even if his/her life has to be put at risk by crossing walls, seas or deserts. There is an effective solution that can contribute to solve this problem, which is that rich countries help poor countries to develop at economic, technological and industrial level. Thus, poor people will not be pressured to seek jobs in foreign land.
