RESIGNATION TO MY COLOMBIAN CITIZENSHIP DUE TO RACIST’S ISSUES

In this writing, I hereby give up my Colombian citizenship due to racist’s issues, taking in consideration the fallowing reasoning: I have always sustained that racism makes part of the past, as it has been replaced by social class differences. See article at: http://wwwbloggercom-ocastillo.blogspot.com titled “Racial Problem vs. Social Class Difference” from May 28, 2008. Nonetheless, I have been receiving shameful information through Colombia’s mass media that demonstrates the fact that this country has strong resistance to accept this social change. It was said that in Bogota and Cartagena some owners of certain bars did not allow the entrance of blacks, using the anachronistic and outrageous warning “reserved admission”. Consequently, these owners were sued by the rejected blacks and Colombia’s Supreme Court ruled, condemning the racists to apologize to the victims.

Although, I was born, grew up, studied and worked in a delectable family and social environment and was not a victim or witness of racial discrimination, I have never felt pride of being Colombian as this country is characterized by two negative notions: its inherent abhorrence for its own history, and the fact that each person believes to belong to a superior social class to others. The former is because history obligates Colombian people to remember where they come from and the latter is due to feelings of superiority over persons they consider to be inferior to them; blacks and Indians. This is the reason why Colombians are mentally and spiritually absolutely convinced of being white. For this reason, when a racial situation is raised, all Colombian people consider themselves whites, and exclude those who cannot hide their black and Indian race. In my opinion, the “white” Colombian population does not reach 1 % of people who do not have black or Indian”blood”. I recall how outraged, offended, insulted and humiliated the Colombian’s population felt in the eighties when an American Ambassador said, in a open, relaxed and informal conversation that Colombia was a country of mestizos and mulatos.

In this order of ideas, the racial and social confusion among the Colombian population is reflected in the ridiculous and humiliating ruling of the Colombian Supreme Court. The Court knows that asking for an apology does not help to eradicate the racial hatred of these criminals; on the contrary, it stimulates it, as it occurs with negative political campaigning. The Court, with this kind of ruling, is cynically sending the blacks whom were harmed psychologically and morally to be killed by these criminals.

LA CRISIS FINANCIERA EN USA

La crisis financiera en Estados Unidos esta demostrando algo que todo el mundo conoce pero nadie se atreve a hablar claramente: la insensibilidad de los capitalistas y el hecho de que el mundo político y los medios de comunicación están al servicio de las grandes corporaciones económicas. Todo el mundo sabe también que el colapso de la economía Americana fue causado por la crisis de los bienes raíces, la cual surgió del usurero programa hipotecario llamado subprime y que la administración de Bush acusó cínicamente a los deudores hipotecarios como responsable de este desastroso hecho. (Ver el articulo de mayo 14 en este blog llamado Crisis financiera de los bienes raíces en los Estados Unidos). También es conocido que el plan de rescate por setecientos mil millones presentado por el presidente Bush, fue aprobado por el congreso, fue apoyado por los candidatos Barrack Obama y John McCain y fue presentado por los medios de comunicación como un buen negocio para los contribuyentes; según ellos, porque el pueblo americano se beneficiaria del “préstamo” que le hicimos a los capitalistas, quienes nos los regresarían pagando además altos intereses.

El gobierno tuvo tres caminos para tratar de resolver esta crisis financiera: solucionar la causa del problema: ayudando a los deudores hipotecario que no pudieron pagar sus cuotas debido a los altos intereses; solucionando el efecto del problema, ayudando a las corporaciones financieras, las cuales, colapsaron por que no recibieron el pago de las cuotas en mención o ayudando a los dos. Obviamente, el gobierno decidió ayudar únicamente a las grandes corporaciones a pesar de que la experiencia ha demostrado que es de imperiosa necesidad solucionar la causa del problema en vez de sus efectos, ya que este es el único medio efectivo para acabar con el problema desde la raíz, de lo contrario, el problema persiste o se desarrollar, como probablemente ocurrirá en esta crisis.

La causa de la crisis financiera me recuerda el cuentito de Caperucita Roja. Los inversionistas son los desalmados y hambrientos lobos, quienes planean comerse a los deudores hipotecarios, inocentes victimas. El plan fue engañoso, venenoso y cruel, pero fue presentado en bandeja de oro. Ellos hablaron de tasas de interés variable, indicando que podrían subir o bajar de acuerdo al mercado económico, a sabiendas que la línea de “interés variable” iría en un solo sentido: subiendo, subiendo y subiendo.

El gobierno, los políticos, los analistas económicos y los medios de comunicación conocen claramente esta patética, deprimente e inhumana situación, pero, cada uno ha reaccionado de diferente forma, unos con mentiras y otros guardando silencio. Sin embargo, la posición del presidente Bush y el candidato McCain llaman la atención por cínica y vergonzosa. Ellos acusan a los deudores hipotecario de ser responsables de la crisis de la finca raíz argumentando que no debieron haberse obligado con algo que no estaban en capacidad de pagar. Empero, resumiendo esta patética y vergonzosa historieta, la administración de Bush tolero y permitió el engañoso, abusivo y usurero programa hipotecario “subprime”, a través del cual, los inversionistas sometieron los deudores hipotecarios. La administración de Bush y los inversionistas sabían que tanto los deudores hipotecario como los agentes de finca raíz caerían en la trampa por ignorancia, ya que estos últimos tampoco tienen la capacidad intelectual para entender asuntos económicos complicados.

THE FINACIAL CRISIS IN THE USA

The financial crisis is showing something that everyone knows but none dares to talk about clearly: the capitalists’ insensibility and the fact that the political world and the mass media are at the service of the big economic corporations. Everyone also knows that the American economy collapse was caused by the real estate crisis which emerged from the usurer mortgage programs called subprime and that the Bush administration cynically accused the mortgage debtors of being responsible of it. (See article from May 14 in this blog titled Financial Crisis of Real Estates in the United States). It is also known that President Bush’s bailout plan for 7 billion dollars, was approved by Congress, was supported by the candidates Barrack Obama and John McCain, and was presented by the mass media as a profitable arrangement for the taxpayer. According to them, the American people would ultimately beneficiate from this loan made to the capitalists, given that they would be returned this money with high interest rates.

The government had three ways to attempt solving this financial crisis: solving the cause, helping the mortgage debtors, who could not pay their monthly payments because of the highest interest rate; solving the effects, helping financial corporations which collapsed because they did not receive monthly payments or helping both. Obviously, they decided to only help the big corporations, in spite of what experience has demonstrated, that it is imperial to solve the causes of the problem instead of the effects, to prevent the persistence or further development of the issues, as will probably occur in this crisis.

The cause of the financial crisis, remind me of the fairytale, Little Red Riding Hood. The investors were the hungry and heartless wolfs who planned to eat the mortgage debtor’s whom were the innocent victim’s. The plan was ensnaring, poisonous and deceitful, but presented in golden plate. They talked about variable interest rates, indicating that these could raise or go down according to the economic market; knowing that the “variable interest” line was only heading one way: rising, rising and rising.

The government, politicians, economic analysts and the mass media clearly know everything about this pathetic, depressing and inhuman situation described above, but each one has hypocritically reacted in different ways; some with lies and others keeping quiet. Nonetheless, President Bush’s and McCain’s cynic and shameful position calls attention. They accused the mortgage debtors of being responsible for the real estate crisis because they should not have committed to something they were not able to pay. Bush’s administration tolerated or allowed this deceitful abuse and usurer program by which mortgage debtors were subjected by the investors. The investors and the Bush administration knew that the mortgage debtors would fall in the trap due to ignorance, as well as the real estate agents whom do not have the intellectual capacity to understand economic issues.

LA ANGUSTIA LLAMADA LA MIGRA

Organizaciones y activistas sociales han intentado diferentes formulas para solucionar la situación de los inmigrantes ilegales, que entre otras cosas, esta causando inmensos problemas de índole económica, social, política y psicológica en nuestro país. El presidente George W. Bush ha hecho un aparente y formal esfuerzo para lograr una reforma migratoria no por convicción, sino para mostrarle a la población Hispana que él trató de cumplir con su promesa y por circunstancias ajena a su voluntad no pudo. Es conocido el hecho de que los republicanos han usado una posición anti-migratoria como arma para obtener apoyo de la extrema ala conservadora y que los demócratas no están interesados en resolver este asunto, o por lo menos, esto no hace parte de sus prioridades. Los candidatos a la presidencia americana Barrack Obama y John McCain han prometido luchar para hacer una reforma migratoria comprensiva, pero, hay una racional duda sobre el éxito de esta, ya que existirá una fuerte oposición de la gran mayoría de los congresistas.

En consecuencia, hay una imperiosa necesidad de cambiar la mentalidad de los congresistas. Uno de los caminos a seguir para tratar de modificar la actitud de estos políticos puede ser, que la población blanca americana se una al clamor de los hispanos. De hecho, el congreso a ignorado o subestimado las gigantescas manifestaciones de los Hispanos porque la gran mayoría de ellos han sido inmigrantes ilegales. Sin embargo, si los políticos hubiesen vistos Blancos Americanos caminando con los Hispanos, el panorama político hubiese podido cambiar drásticamente. La idea de ver Hispanos y Blancos caminando juntos para pedir una reforma migratoria parece ser algo muy romántico, ingenuo e irrealista, pero no lo es, porque los Blancos Americanos están fundamentalmente divido en dos grupos: aquellos que hacen parte de la extrema derecha, racistas e intolerantes, quienes, son minoría y aquellas personas generosas, sensibles, caritativas y compasivas que, gracias a Dios, son la gran mayoría. Los primeros, usan todo los recursos disponibles para imponer sus ideas negativas mientras que los segundos, están siempre listos para promover el desarrollo social y la ayuda humanitaria.

Aunque la mayoría de la población Blanca Americana siente dolor y compasión por la miserable suerte de los ilegales, ellos no han sido motivados o animados a participar activamente en esta dramática, por no decir, inhumana situación que padecen estas personas. En este orden de ideas, cada hispano debe encontrar el camino para involucrar a su amigo, compañero o jefe blanco en esta noble causa.

Indudablemente, la ayuda de los Americanos Blancos es el vehículo más efectivo para que el congreso apruebe una reforma migratoria, la cual, terminaría con la ansiedad y el miedo ininterrumpido de 14 millones de ilegales, quienes entre otras cosas, son padres de millones de niños americanos. Otro hecho que puede contribuir a materializar esta idea es la relacionada con las Iglesias americanas en virtud a que ellas han sido un poderoso aliado de los ilegales y están realmente ayudándolos en la solución de sus problemas. Sin embargo, ellos no le han pedido a sus feligreses participar activamente en este asunto. En consecuencia, podría ser una excelente idea que las organizaciones, grupo de activistas o los hispanos pidan a la Iglesia que inviten a la población blanca a participar activamente en una reforma migratoria comprensiva.
