TRANSVALUATION OF THE VALUES

All the information received from the mass media regarding Barack Obama reminds me of Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche’s philosophical thought of transvaluation of values which refers to the shifts of the evaluative connotation from positive to negative and vice verse. In our case, giving a negative value to something that is absolutely positive.

In this political contest for the presidency, Barack Obama is portrayed by the mass media as an intelligent, young and charismatic man who is breaking historical records of success at an academic, professional and politic level. Furthermore, it was said that he has written two books that are included among the more read books in the world. It was also said that, he possesses and uses the power of words which has allowed him to give two speeches that have already made part of human history. Nonetheless, the mass media instead of exalting theses qualities as a guarantee of victory, they present this picture as something that could prevent him from his political aspiration. At least, this is inferred from their obsessive questioning about whether the Unites States is prepared to elect him as president.

On the other hand, John McCain is portrayed as an old and ordinary man, who was a Vietnam veteran and holds a large political carrier. That is it. In other words, excluding his military experience, McCain’s life is enormously boring. He has not been part of anything worth mentioning. Nevertheless, the mass media has been sending unequivocal signals indicating implicitly that he is undoubtedly prepared to be elected president. If we take into account Obama’s impressive records, McCain’s ordinary résumé and the signals given by the mass media, we must conclude that we are in presence of what Nietzsche called transvaluation of values.

With the intention of giving some value to McCain, the mass media and his political campaign have clung to the only thing he has: a large political career. This fact has been over evaluated to the point of becoming a symbol of intelligence. Only naive persons present the experience as a fountain or synonym of intelligence. The history of human beings is full of people who have died being mediocre despite the fact that they have worked all their lives in a particular area.

I really do not know if theses mistaken values interpreted by the mass media are made intentionally, but I do know that this has caused confusion among the uneducated class and/or racially polarized the American population. As a matter of fact, this was what Hillary Clinton did and what McCain will do. In this order of ideas, it is not necessary to do a mental effort to understand why some people want to present Obama as a black candidate despite the fact the everyone knows that he is representing the American people in its multiracial and multicultural context. He has repeatedly said that he is a candidate to the presidency who is coincidentally black and not a black candidate running for the presidency. Therefore, I would dare to say that in this election the Americans’ intellectual maturity level will be in trial which will be won by either the educated class or uneducated class.

Your's right. Everybody are is asking or requirement something to Obama, but nothing to McCain. It is also truth that the Obama's history is interesting at all level while the McCain is an ordinary life.
